>> we are seeing some precipitation outside! haven't been able to see much of that. it's just some drizzle but making the roads a little slick if you are headed out the door. we could see a little rain coming our way. we'll talk about that coming up. >> that's right. something is brewing outside. in fact, there are some slick conditions reported slippery when wet a little bit across the san mateo bridge so you can see it in our camera just past the toll plaza. so we'll have a full look at your morning commute. there's a lot of overnight roadwork, as well. have your travel times and mass transit. >> sounds good. thank you. it is 4:30. as we begin, a woman now recovering after being sucker punched at a strip mall. kpix 5's betty yu reports, los gatos police are wondering if it was all part of a dangerous "knockout game." >> i screamed, ah! >> reporter: that scream came from a woman outside this los gatos dance studio. she may be the latest victim of a disturbing "game" that's gaining popularity across the country.

just watch the surveillance video. they try to knock out unsuspecting people at random with one punch for the sheer thrill of it. >> like a big punch [ inaudible ] >> reporter: police say a man in his mid-20s clocked the woman in the face. dance instructor says the woman had just dropped off her daughter at the studio. >> it was in the middle of the day. it wasn't even dark yet. it was full of people. so obviously, they are trying to look for attention. kind of scary that someone thinks that it's a game to punch people. >> reporter: the woman will be okay but across the country, some attacks have been deadly. >> one head hitter quitter. >> reporter: in pennsylvania this teacher was hit so hard he collapsed head first on the concrete curb. this new york man was knocked out cold. >> people are trying to prove their manhood but instead prove they are still children.

>> reporter: betty yu kpix 5. a third deadly accident in san francisco. a man running across van ness avenue near the civic center was hit by a car at 6:00 also night. he was 38. he was in some sort of fight before trying to cross the street, according to witnesses. >> there is a witness who said there was a verbal altercation prior but it had broken up prior to this actual collision occurring. >> police say the man tried crossing the street several times but ran back to the sidewalk when cars came. he made it across six lanes before getting hit. 4:32. there is now another confirmed flu related death here in the bay area this season. contra costa county health officials just announced a 48 -year-old woman died last week. flu patients are keeping emergency rooms busy throughout the bay. most of those people are getting sick with the h1n1 virus a specific strain of the swine flu. unlike other flu strains, h1n1 can result in a deadly form of pneumonia even in healthy younger people. health experts say the best way

to prevent it is to get a flu vaccine. kpix 5's len ramirez took that advice. >> reporter: i'm here with nurse timothy hill and he is going to give me my shot. anytime you're ready. >> try to relax. take a deep breath and let it out. we are done. not too bad. >> reporter: okay. that was easy. >> keep in mind, it can take up to two weeks for that flu shot to fully kick in. as most of the nation starts to thaw, airport traffic should pick up. many travelers have been stuck at sfo for days due to the arctic conditions back east. others look for their bags amid rows and rows of unclaimed luggage. 2500 flights were canceled nationwide yesterday. in the last week, more than 17,000 flights have been canceled. the worst of the cold is over. but it's still well below freezing in many places. water dripping on to train tracks in cleveland froze in place bringing train travel to

a halt yesterday. and this fountain that didn't stand a chance in the freezing cold is completely iced over. just look at what happened when a water main burst in baltimore. that car is not going anywhere anytime soon. >> that is the worst. getting into a car that was just frozen over. >> frozen! >> i have never seen anything like that. >> at least they are getting winter. >> hello. >> we haven't had much. but we may see things change. clouds moving across our skies now, we are seeing drizzle outside in spots and dense fog approaching the coastline so watch out for that. also, a cold front sitting off the coastline. you can see it as the clouds begin to make their way toward the bay area, not going to be much energy with this one but maybe just enough to squeeze out a couple of showers. today looking at some fog and drizzle continuing out toward the coastline. some partial clearing into the afternoon, highs will be cooler today. only in the 50s and the low 60s in the warmest spots. so we are going to keep those temperatures down. possible delays at sfo this morning and we are looking at

temperatures of 61 degrees this afternoon in san jose. about 59 in fremont. and about 58 degrees in san francisco. all right. let's check your "kcbs traffic" with elizabeth. we have a lot of roadwork this morning up and down the nimitz freeway, specifically northbound that's where the heaviest traffic is that is the commute direction and overall, the flow of traffic looks good but there are several lanes blocked until 5:00. northbound 880 high street to embarcadero. southbound great towards 92 and the san mateo bridge. west bound 580 through the altamont pass and livermore valley,there's a pickup truck fire approaching the north flynn exit and there are some delays right around the area. it has been cleared to the right-hand shoulder but obviously, there's delays westbound and we are even seeing slowdowns eastbound toward tracy. here's a live look toward the san mateo bridge. that travel advisory is in effect issued by chp noting some slippery conditions this morning across the san mateo bridge. foggy and slick on that westbound 92 approach and here's a live look at the bay bridge.

there is some roadwork this morning westbound 80 incline towards the island. and similar story on the eastbound side, as well. midspan to the toll plaza. they have two left lanes blocked until 6 a.m. we'll have a check of mass transit coming up. in the meantime, back to you guys. lawmakers are fed up with the feds. tony lopez in sacramento now on how state lawmakers are trying to stop the nsa from spying on millions of californians. >> i do agree with the nsa that this is a dangerous world that we live in. >> reporter: but democratic state senator ted lieu and other california legislators say they have a problem with how the government is dealing with that. >> the nsa has been violating the constitutional rights of all californians. we are trying to get the ns a. to change its ways. >> reporter: a familiar rallying cry that began when edward snowden leaked classified documents to the

media blowing the whistle on how the agency spies on all americans looking for possible security threats. the bipartisan bill introduced tuesday at the state capital would deny nsa facilities in california access to electricity and water from public utilities, would slap sanctions on companies that try to fill that void, and would outlaw nsa partnerships with state universities. but that's not all. >> the bill bans california agencies and officials from cooperating with the nsa when they seize electronics and metadata on our citizens unless nsa can produce a warrant. >> reporter: the proposed legislation comes at a time when president obama plans to sit down with intelligence officials and congressional leaders to take a closer look at how the u.s. spies on americans that's collected unconstitutionally. >> it's important for the state to assert state rights. >> reporter: in sacramento, tony lopez, kpix 5.

>> legal scholars doubt that if the bill passes it would survive a court challenge. state lawmakers are set to take up the bill this coming march. four us air force crewmen are dead after a helicopter slammed into the coastal marshes of eastern england. it happened during a training mission yesterday. british authorities have cordoned off the area so they can retrieve the bodies. so far, no word on what may have caused the accident. this type of helicopter is generally used in search-and- rescue missions, flying fast and low at altitudes of a few hundred feet. an armed bank robber in southern california has police doing a double-take. they can't figure out if the suspect behind five bank robberies in san jose and milpitas is a man or woman. >> they believe that this person is on some sort of role right now where they are thinking i'm invincible. we believe they will continue until they are caught. >> police believe the robber

has one or two accomplices. there is an $11,000 reward for an arrest. home surveillance camera captured two burglars breaking into a home in belmont. watch the right side of your screen. they are going i'm through the house on cipriani boulevard. it's the second daytime burglary in that area in the past two weeks. a man is in custody accused of robbing bay area yoga studios. kpix 5's andria borba explains how a simple mistake led to the suspect's capture. >> reporter: talk about ruining your yoga pose. imagine stepping out of downward dog to discover your phone and wallet are gone. that's what berkeley police say 20-year-old christopher newton did. he is accused of hitting at least five different yoga studios in the last year including this core power yoga always with the same m.o. >> he comes in and says he wants to try yoga because most studios will give you a free day or week. >> reporter: after taking advantage of the generosity,

detectives say newton started stretching his criminal muscle. the suspect would make an seduce and hit excuse and steal items from the locker room. the weekend before thanksgiving he took off before the class was finished. >> he had all their belongings including credit cards and such for a good 45 minutes to an hour so he had time to do some damage. >> reporter: but his alleged achilles heel, his forgetfulness. police say he signed up for his free classes under a fake name. but apparently he left behind a real phone number. >> i don't know if it's just an error on his part or what about you it what, but it led us to him. >> reporter: he is now awaiting

teenagers swarmed a conveni store and began stealing st police in bryan, texas are investigating surveillance

video after a mob of teenagers swarmed a convenience store and began stealing stuff last saturday as the clerk was closing the store. as many as 40 rushed in. the stolen items included candy, snacks and beer. no charges have been filed. dozens of retired new york police officers and firefighters facing charges now in what investigators call a massive disability scam. cbs news' jeff glor reports some are even accused of exploiting the 9/11 terror attacks. >> reporter: prosecutors say luis fer was in self-defense videos and accused of taking $470,000 over 24 years claiming disability. richard constantino allegedly received $207,000 while claiming he was too depressed to go out. glen lieberman $175,000. also too depressed to go outside. he says after the attacks on
